Ese mismo año se lanzó su álbum “Alright, Still”, que fue certificado triple platino en Gran Bretaña. Aunque Allen continúa trabajando como músico, nunca ha podido aprovechar su éxito anterior en los últimos años, y sabe por qué.
“Mis hijos han arruinado mi carrera”, explicó en el podcast Radio Times, “los amo y me completan, pero en lo que respecta a mi estrellato pop, lo han arruinado por completo”. La mujer de 38 años añadió: ” Algunas personas eligen su carrera antes que la de sus hijos, y ese es su derecho”.

Según Allen, es imposible conciliar carrera y familia: “Me enfada mucho cuando la gente dice que puedes tenerlo todo, porque francamente no es así”. La primera hija de la cantante nació en 2011, la segunda dos años después. Allen está divorciado del padre de su hijo, Sam Cooper, desde 2018. En el 2020 se casó con el actor David Harbour.

A diferencia de su madre, la compositora quiere hacer las cosas de otra manera. En su biografía “My Thoughts Exactly” (2018), escribió sobre la adicción a las drogas y al alcohol de su madre. “Un día llegué a casa de la escuela y ella estaba en su habitación rodeada de vodka vacío y frascos de pastillas”, dice el libro.
Pero Allen también tuvo algunos problemas en el pasado y fue expulsado de la escuela varias veces por culpa del alcohol y los cigarrillos. “Reprimí gran parte de mi infancia”, explicó en una entrevista de 2023 con Sunday World. Ha renunciado al alcohol y las drogas por sus hijos.
